Cascadia Cup Standings Update - Oct. 19, 2012

The Cascadia Cup

As the final Cascadia Cup match of 2012 takes place Sunday, Oct. 21 between the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps FC (4 pm PT, ROOT SPORTS750 AM The Game / La Pantera 940), it comes down to this: if the Timbers win the match, they win the Cup.

The current holders of the Cup, the Seattle Sounders and their supporters, will be holding their breath waiting for the clock to tick down 90+ minutes. If the Timbers cannot find their first road victory of the season, the Sounders will keep it within the confines of Seattle. A draw does not help Portland as though it would bring them level on points with the Sounders, Seattle would hold the tiebreaker in goal differential of head-to-head games.

While Vancouver has been eliminated from the Cascadia Cup race, they have plenty to play for needing a win on Sunday over Portland to secure their first trip to the MLS Cup playoffs in franchise history.
