Diego Valeri, Lanus #3

Highlights: Diego Valeri

New Timbers midfielder and Designated Player Diego Valeri has a keen eye for goal and incredible vision on the pitch. This past fall, while playing for Argentine Primera División side Lanús, he scored this sharp goal on a give and go where he first plucked the ball away from the defender before taking off towards goal.

In this next clip, also from this past fall, Valeri shows perfect timing on a run to slip past the San Martín de San Juan backline, receive a perfectly weighted ball, turn on the keeper, and easily slot the ball home. Watch near the top of the frame once Lanús steals the ball away from the opposition to see Valeri make his run.

This final clip showcases more of Valeri's overall skill on the ball and free kick abilities while with Lanús. In it, he clearly loves to press forward and add pressure but check out around the 1:39 mark where there's a beautiful cross in that leads to a goal. That is followed by a Valeri free kick clip where he puts a gentle spin on the ball in the same game for a second assist. Right after that, Valeri has a cheeky quick start from a dead ball that leads to yet another goal. Keep an eye on number eight throughout.
