Portland Timbers' Diego Valeri undergoes successful bilateral sports hernia repair

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers today announced that midfielder Diego Valeri has undergone a successful bilateral sports hernia repair. The procedure was performed Wednesday by doctors at the Surgery Center of the Pacific in Santa Monica, Calif.


The expected recovery time for Valeri is 4-6 weeks.

Valeri, 27, was named to the MLS Best XI and the league’s Newcomer of the Year following his first season in Portland and in MLS in 2013. He scored 10 goals and recorded a league-best 13 assists in 31 games, finishing the regular season as the Timbers’ Golden Boot winner and setting the club’s MLS single-season records for goals, assists and points (33). He was voted by players to the 2013 MLS All-Star inactive roster and was a seven-time MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week selection. Valeri won MLS Goal of the Week four times during the regular season.
