Your rise to fame has been rapid from college student-athlete to one of the most recognizable female athletes in the world. What is the most important life lesson you have learned during that time?
“There’s a lot of life lessons I’ve learned, but just the fact that we have a big responsibility as women’s professional athletes to be responsible for our actions, to set the standard for our peers and those coming up behind us. Just to be a positive influence on those young girls watching us.”

It’s been a long journey back from your ankle injury. How does it feel to be back playing after the recovery process?
“I don’t think about my injury anymore. I really just think about trying to be as fit as I can, trying to make my touch as crisp as I can and trying to be back where I was before the injury.”

There have been some great individual performances this World Cup. Which player impressed you the most?
“Definitely James Rodriguez – I’m a new Colombia fan.”

You’ve lived in Portland for a while now. What do you like most about the Rose City?
“Portland is an amazing city. You can’t beat the summers here. I love the food and drink atmosphere here. I love the food carts, the different bars around the city. It’s a really fun city to be in and explore.”
