USL MATCH RECAP | Sacramento Republic FC: 3, Portland Timbers 2: 0

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Playing their third match of a four-game road swing, T2 conceded twice in the first half of a 3-0 loss against reigning USL-champion Sacramento Republic FC at Bonney Field on Saturday night.

T2 (2-2-1, 7pts) got off to an energetic start, but Sacramento Republic FC (4-2-0, 12pts) took an early 1-0 lead in the 13th minute as midfielder Rodrigo Lopez’s shot from outside the box deflected off a T2 defender and found the back of the net.

Sacramento jumped ahead 2-0 in the 31st minute as Lopez chipped a free kick into the box that found the head of defender Mickey Daly, who powered it past goalkeeper Jake Gleeson. Republic FC added a third in the 81st minute on a counterattack, as Gleeson made a reflex save, but the ball bounced out to Sacramento midfielder Zev Taublieb who finished from close range.

T2’s best chance of the match fell to Ghanaian forward Fatawu Safiu who struck a shot with pace in the 41st minute, but Republic FC goalkeeper Patrick McLain was able to parry the effort away.

Following Saturday’s match, T2 will play the last match in their four-game road trip, traveling to face Arizona United SC on Saturday, April 25, at Scottsdale Stadium in Scottsdale, Ariz.; kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. (Pacific).
