PORTLAND, Ore. – T2 forward Kharlton Belmar has been named the USL Player of the Week for Week Six of the 2015 season after scoring a pair of goals and helping lead T2 to a 2-0 victory over Arizona United SC on Saturday night at Scottsdale Stadium in Scottsdale, Ariz. Belmar earned 69 percent of the vote, which was conducted by a national panel of independent media representing every USL market.
Belmar, who previously earned a spot on the USL Team of the Week for Week Two, registered his second brace of the season on Saturday and is tied for the league lead with five goals in six games. The forward opened the scoring for T2 with a shot from close range after receiving a low cross from forward Rundell Winchester in the 19th minute. Belmar completed his brace with a curling strike from distance in the 44th minute. Outpacing Arizona defenders and cutting towards goal, Belmar delivered an accurate strike from just outside the left side of the penalty box and beat the goalkeeper inside the top-right corner of the goal.
Additionally, T2 defender Taylor Peay was named to the USL Team of the Week this week after playing 90 minutes against Arizona United SC and helping Portland earn its first shutout of the 2015 USL season.
Following Saturday’s match, T2 return home to face Orange County Blues FC at Providence Park on Sunday, May 3; kickoff is set for 6 p.m. (Pacific). The game is one of two T2 games at Providence Park this season.
