U-23s vs. Kitsap Goal Box 5.29.15

PORTLAND, Ore. –The Portland Timbers U-23s sustained their first loss of the 2015 PDL season, falling 2-0 against Kitsap Pumas in front of 8,121 fans at Providence Park on Friday in a Providence Health & Fitness Day match. The loss snapped Portland’s two-game winning streak to start the season.

Following a scoreless first half, the Timbers U-23s (2-1-0, 6 pts) conceded the opening goal late in the second half as Kitsap defender Logan Miller converted a sharp cross in the box from midfielder Mike Ramos in the 83rd minute to give the Pumas (3-0-0, 9pts) the lead late in the match.


Kitsap doubled its lead in second-half stoppage time as defender Ash Apollon chipped a ball into the box for midfielder Justin Ortinau, who finished with a low, driven shot inside the left post.


Making his second start of the 2015 PDL season, Portland goalkeeper Colin Partee faced four shots in the match, registering two first-half saves to keep the Timbers U-23s level with Kitsap after the first 45 minutes.


The Timbers U-23s finished the match with a 13-12 advantage in shots, while also suffering 20 fouls in the loss. Portland defender Devon Fisher brought pressure early in the second half as he fired shot from inside the box, forcing Kitsap goalkeeper Matt Grosey to make a diving stop.


Portland travel to face Calgary Foothills FC on Tuesday, June 2, at Hellard Field in Calgary; kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. (Pacific).
