Portland Timbers U-23s' Dennis Castillo and Todd Wharton earn postseason PDL honors

The USL Premier Development League announced its 2015 All-League Team on Tuesday, as it honored the top performers from the regular season ahead of this weekend’s PDL Championship presented by Nike. The 2015 PDL All-League Team was selected through a vote of team management.

Portland Timbers U-23s duo of Dennis Castillo and Todd Wharton both received honors as the pair were named to the 2015 PDL All-League team. The Timbers U-23s were the only PDL team to have two of its players selected to the All-League Team.

Castillo and Wharton were also earlier named to the 2015 PDL All-Western Conference Team.

Castillo will enter his senior season at Virginia Commonwealth University this fall, having started 20 games for VCU last year. Castillo helped lead the team to six shutouts and earned All-Atlantic 10 Second Team and All-Rookie squad honors in his freshman season. In his junior season, Castillo helped lead a defensive unit that ranked 11th nationally in goals against average (0.65).

Wharton, a midfield workhorse, is entering his senior season at Virginia University this fall. Wharton has started 62 of Virginia's 63 games played since 2012, when Wharton was a freshman. In 2013, Wharton was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team and last year was a Third-Team All-ACC honoree.
