PORTLAND, Ore. – Playing the second of a two-match home stand, T2 will play host to Cascadia-rival Whitecaps FC 2 at Providence Park on Sunday, April 16. Set to begin at 2 p.m. (Pacific), Sunday’s match will be available via a live, high-definition web stream at www.timbers2.com.
The match on Saturday marks the first of three matches between the two clubs in 2017, as both teams will meet Sunday, June 4, at Providence Park and Saturday, Sept. 30, at Thunderbird Stadium. In eight all-time meetings between the two teams, T2 trail the series 3-5-0. In the last meeting between the two clubs, T2 played to a 2-1 victory over Whitecaps FC 2 on Sept. 18, 2016, at Thunderbird Stadium.
T2 (0-4-0, 0pts) enter Sunday’s contest looking to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to Orange County SC on April 8. After Orange County took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute, Portland equalized in the 19th minute. Defender Kyle Bjornethun sent in a cross from the left flank that forward Augustine Williams headed into back of the net from inside the six-yard box to record his second goal of the 2017 USL season. Orange County took the lead in the 58th minute after midfielder Victor Pineda drilled a long-range shot into the top corner of the net.
Whitecaps FC 2 (1-1-1, 4pts) enter Sunday’s match after defeating Seattle Sounders FC 2, 3-0 at McLeod Athletic Park to pick up their first win of the 2017 USL season on April 8. Midfielder Ben McKendry and defenders Deklan Wynne and Andy Thoma all scored for WFC2 in the victory.

Following Sunday’s match, T2 will travel on the road to play Sacramento Republic FC at Papa Murphy’s Park on Saturday, April 22; kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. (Pacific).
