Timbers Academy Update | U-15s and U-14s pick up first wins of the season

All five age groups of the Timbers Academy were in action on Sept. 23, with the Timbers Academy U-17s, U-15s and U-14s picking up their first wins of the 2017-18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season.


The Timbers U-15s (1-1-1, 4pts) assembled an unbeaten road trip in Northern California. A brace from Lance Friedrich helped the team to a 4-2 win against Pateadores FC on Sept. 23 at UC Irvine. Lukas Fisher found the back of the net in the third minute, while Friedrich scored his first goals of the season in the 29th and 51st minutes to help the Timbers to a 3-1 lead. Issac Homer, a member of the U.S. U-14 National Team pool, sealed the win with a goal in the 60th minute. On Sept. 24, the Timbers U-15s received an 80th-minute equalizer from Anthony Robertson to earn a 1-1 draw at Strikers FC at Santa Ana College.


Forward Will Inalien scored two goals as the Timbers U-19s (2-2-0, 6pts) split results on a two-game road trip to Northern California. Inalien scored the lone goal for the team in a 3-1 loss to Pateadores on Sept. 23 at UC Irvine. He then contributed to a five-goal output in a 5-1 route of Strikers FC on Sept. 24 at Santa Ana College. Carlos Anguano,Lucas CiniAnthony Herbert and Adrian Villegas all scored their first goals of the season in the win against Strikers FC.


The Timbers U-17s (1-3-0, 3pts) rebounded from a 2-0 loss on Sept. 23 at Pateadores to claim a 3-1 victory the next day at Strikers FC on Sept 24. After an early goal by Strikers FC, the Timbers U-17s scored three unanswered goals, starting with Nicholas Scardina’s PK conversion in the 33rd minute – it’s his second goal of the year. Josh Darius and Owen Guske both scored their first goals of the season in the second half.


The Timbers U-14s (1-1-0, 3pts) secured their first points of the season with a 3-1 win against Eastside FC at the adidas Timbers Training Center. Like the U-15s, the Timbers U-14s found an early goal in the third minute from Carter Keyes. Kyle McGowan then scored his first goal of the season as Portland took a 2-1 lead into halftime. Jhovany Gaytan scored the team’s third goal early in the second half to lock up the victory.


The Timbers U-13s (0-1-1, 1pt) played Eastside FC to a 3-3 draw in their first home match of the season, getting goals from three different players. Gunder Miller scored the opening goal for the Timbers U-13 in the 35th minute. Then, Yojany Espiritu and Bryan Rodriguez both scored inside the first 10 minutes of a wild second half that saw five total goals scored between the two teams.
