Film writer and Timbers Army regular Shawn Levy helps you get your soccer film fix

The Damned United

2018 is here but the MLS season has yet to begin. What better time than to kick back with a few movies—particularly soccer movies.

We reached out to film writer and Timbers Army veteran Shawn Levy for his top five soccer films. Running the gamut from kung fu to Eric Cantona and more, these five films (plus one extra) mix his favorites of movie and football.

Along with an intense love of soccer, Levy has written biographies of Jerry Lewis, Paul Newman and Robert De Niro. His latest book, Dolce Vita Confidential: Fellini, Loren, Pucci, Paparazzi, and the Swinging High Life of 1950s Rome was recently named by the London Sunday Times as the Book of the Year for Stage and Screen calling it “a nostalgic trip with an edgy underbelly—much like Rome itself, then.”
