MATCH RECAP | Portland Timbers 2, Los Angeles FC 1

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers won their fifth game in a row–a new team record in the MLS era–as they defeated Los Angeles FC 2-1 in front of a sold out Providence Park Saturday afternoon.

Midfielder Cristhian Paredes scored his first goal in a Timbers uniform in the 52nd minute while forward Samuel Armenteros scored the game-winner in the 81st minute.

Match Moments

9' - CHANCE (POR):  Defender Zarek Valentin started the counter with an outlet pass to Andy Polo. Polo then sprung Fanendo Adi on the break who zeroed in on goal only to have his shot ping the crossbar.

12' - CHANCE (POR):  On a Timbers corner, LAFC goalkeeper Tyler Miller bobbled the ball. It fell to Cristhian Paredes who tapped it to Julio Cascante but Cascante's shot was deflected away. On the follow up corner, Larrys Mabiala took a close-range shot that went high.

15' - CHANCE (POR):  Paredes forced a turnover in the LAFC half. He played the ball forward to Diego Valeri, Valeri fed Sebastián Blanco who backheeled to an on-rushing Polo. Polo's shot was saved by Miller.

50' - CHANCE (POR):  Valeri lofted a perfectly placed ball from 35 yards out that found Adi in the box. Adi chested it down but his shot was deflected away by Miller.

52' - GOAL (POR):  Paredes gave the Timbers a 1-0 lead right after halftime as he hammered home a rebound following a well-struck free-kick from Valeri. Miller made the initial save but Paredes was in perfect position to pounce on the ball and slot it into the back of the net. It was Paredes first career goal for the Timbers.

62' - CHANCE (POR):  Blanco chipped a ball up to Valeri near the top of the 18-yard box. Valeri chested it down before hitting it on the volley just high of the cross bar.

74' - GOAL (LAFC):  LAFC's Carlos Vela, with a little bit of space inside the 18-yard box, lofted a left-footed shot up and over Jeff Attinella into the far corner of the net to even the score at 1-1.

80' - SAVE (POR):  LAFC's Diego Rossi slipped through the Timbers back line to take a hard shot on target that Timbers goalkeeper Jeff Attinella deftly parried away to keep the score even.

81' - GOAL (POR):  Less than a minute later, the Timbers burst out on the counter with Paredes playing a ball forward to Samuel Armenteros. Armenteros cut in from the right side before blasting a laser into the left corner of the net for a 2-1 Timbers lead, marking his first goal with Portland.

Portland take to the road next Saturday, May 26 as they'll play the Colorado Rapids at Dick's Sporting Good Park in Commerce City, Colo. at 6pm PT on FOX 12 PLUS (KPDX).
