Congratulations to our September 29th Axe Society Members of the Match – Robert Falconer and Kristen McCleary!

MOTM, Timbers vs. Dallas, 9.29.18

As part of our inaugural group of ticket holders, Robert and Kristen won the chance to have a VIP experience for the Portland Timbers vs. FC Dallas match, including KeyBank Club seats, and a chance to visit with Timber Joey on the field!

We asked Robert a few questions after the match.

What was your first memory of/first match supporting the Timbers?
"
I went to a few Timbers games during the NASL days, and even got to see Pelé play his final game (although the Timbers didn’t play that day). For recent Timbers, I went to a few of the USL games and just remember the wonderful support up in the Army. It was a smaller group than it is now, but was still raucous and chanting the whole game."

What was your favorite moment of the match tonight?
"
Jeff [Attinella] and [Steve] Clark getting the shutout."

Who would you nominate as Player of the Match?
"Diego Chara – he was all over the field doing what Chara always does: taking the ball away, making key plays, and setting up other players."

What is your prediction for the next MLS match – Timbers at Real Salt Lake?
"
A win of course! I think we’re going to do well in our final three matches, and am looking forward to seeing the final game live up in Vancouver, B.C."

What else should we know about your Timbers fandom? Any favorite pieces of Timbers memorabilia?
"
After leaving the Army section in 2015, I still try to arrive when gates open for every home game. The atmosphere of the stadium is just electric and it’s fun to see the Army section filled up over an hour before kick-off."

In terms of my favorite memorabilia, I have one of the MLS All-Star banners in my garage, so every time I park my car I get to see a reminder of that game. I also may have one of the very first [Darlington] Nagbe signed Timbers jerseys. I got it at the pre-launch event silent auction before the first season, when people still didn’t know who he was."

Congratulations Robert and Kristen! And thank you for your continued support!
