MATCH RECAP | Columbus Crew SC 1, Portland Timbers 3

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two first half goals from Larrys Mabiala and Jeremy Ebobisse plus a second half stoppage-time strike from Jorge Moreira – his first in MLS – gave the Portland Timbers their first win of the season: a 3-1 victory over Columbus Crew SC at MAPFRE Stadium on Saturday evening. 



Match Moments

24' - CHANCE (POR) - On a Timbers free kick into the Columbus box, Sebastián Blanco corralled the loose ball and lofted a cross to the back post. The ball fell to Andrés Flores whose shot was blocked at close range.


28' - SAVE (POR) - On a Crew attack into the box, Frederico Higuaín backheeled a pass to Robinho who took a point-blank shot that Jeff Attinella deflected away.


31' - GOAL (POR) - Diego Valeri lined up a free kick from about 35 yards out in front of goal and sent in a ball to the left side of the six-yard box that defender Larrys Mabiala headed inside the left post for a 1-0 Timbers lead.

35' - GOAL (POR) - Four minutes later, the Timbers worked the ball around the edge of the 18-yard box to Blanco on the left side. Blanco then threaded a pass along the ground to Jeremy Ebobisse who nutmegged Crew goalkeeper Zack Steffen on his shot to make it 2-0 for Portland.

69' - GOAL (CLB) - Crew SC's Pedro Santos intercepted a throw from from Attinella, took a touch and then lofted it up and over to cut the deficit in half and make it 2-1.


71' - CHANCE (POR) - On a Timbers corner, Cristhian Paredes flicked on a header to Ebobisse who headed his shot just over the bar.


86' - SAVE (POR) - On a Columbus ball over the top, the ball bounced off a Timbers defender and fell to Higuaín. His low skipping shot was covered by an alert Attinella.


90+1' - GOAL (POR) - The Timbers iced the win in stoppage time when Blanco pushed the ball across to Paredes near the top of the Columbus box. He then laid it off to Jorge Moreira on the right who lasered a shot into the back corner of the net and a 3-1 lead.
