MATCH RECAP | Portland Timbers 1, FC Dallas 0

PORTLAND, Ore. – Forward Brian Fernandez broke an MLS record with a goal and the Portland Timbers defeated FC Dallas 1-0 in front of a sellout crowd at Providence Park Sunday night.

Portland goalkeeper Steve Clark made two saves and the Timbers picked up their third shutout of 2019.

Match Moments

36' - CHANCE (POR) - Diego Valeri spied Sebastián Blanco on the edge of the 18-yard box. He passed him the ball, Blanco cut inside and curled a left-footed shot just wide of the left post.

38' - CHANCE (POR) - As Portland kept the pressure in the attacking third, Cristhian Paredes pounced on a loose ball, but his angled shot went just wide of the right post.

42' - GOAL (POR) - On a lightning fast counterattack, Diego Chara sprayed a ball out wide to Blanco who came down the right channel. Blanco threaded a pass to the middle that Chara – who had continued his run forward – gently flicked and dummied to a wide-open Fernandez on his left. Fernandez then one-timed his shot into the back of the Dallas net for a 1-0 Portland lead. Fernandez' goal broke the MLS record for consecutive matches with a goal to begin an MLS career.

51' - CHANCE (POR) - On a Timbers free kick from about 20 yards in front of the Dallas goal, Valeri curled a well-hit shot up and over the wall forcing a diving save by FCD goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez.

52' - CHANCE (POR) - Blanco lofted a ball into the middle for Jeremy Ebobisse who knocked his shot just inches outside the right post.

83' - CHANCE (POR) - Fernandez surprised everyone with a deft shot from the edge of the area that threaded through the Dallas defense and narrowly missed the far post.

88' - CHANCE (POR) - Zarek Valentin pinged a ball forward to Valeri, who left it for Blanco. Blanco went forward and then passed back to Valeri on his left. Valeri cut inside and curled a shot wide.
