PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers lost 3-1 Sunday evening at Providence Park to Minnesota United FC in the opening game of the 2020 MLS season.

4' - CHANCE (POR) - Portland's Sebastián Blanco raced down the left side and chipped a ball across the front of goal that forward Felipe Mora hit with the outside of his boot but just wide of the right post.


16' - CHANCE (POR) - Mora, cutting in from the left, carried the ball just outside the 18-yard box before lofting a bending shot that went just outside the upper left corner.


22' - CHANCE (POR) - Portland, continuing their forward attack, had Mora and Diego Valeri combine in the right corner. Valeri sprung Mora with a nice pass and he teed it up for Blanco at the top of the box but his final shot angled wide.


51' - GOAL (MIN) - Minnesota went up 1-0 on a counter attack, Minnesota's Ethan Finlay found Robin Lod streaking down the middle. Portland goalkeeper Steve Clark came off his line to deny Lod's initial shot but Loons midfielder Kevin Molino collected the loose ball and knocked it in.


56' - GOAL (POR) (PK) - Five minutes later, Portland's Mora was pulled down in the box by Minnesota defender Ike Opara. Referee Ismail Elfath immediately pointed to the spot and Valeri slotted home his penalty kick into the lower right corner to even the score at 1-1.

57' - SAVE (POR) - Down the other way, a Minnesota cross to the back post was deflected back into the middle for Lod whose point-blank was knocked away by Clark with a diving, finger-tip save.

76' - GOAL (MIN) - The Loons went up 2-1 when Ethan Finlay's cross found Luis Amarilla on the back post for a header.


78' - GOAL (MIN) - In the 78th minute, Molino scored his second goal of the game when he knocked in a looping ball on the volley to make it 3-1 for the visitors.
