T2 earns the honor for the first time this season
PORTLAND, Ore. – Timbers2 picked up their first team recognition of the 2026 MLS NEXT Pro season, being named Team of the Matchweek 24, the league announced today. The honor comes after a historic week for the club, claiming a 3-0 victory over North Texas SC on August 15 in Mansfield, Texas.
Goals from Daniel Cervantes in the 32nd minute, Eric Izoita in the 57th and Maximilian Kissel in the eight minute of added time, propelled Portland to its 13th win this season and league-best ninth win on the road. T2 also recorded a new league record with their 13th shutout this season, while goalkeeper Sam Joseph earned his 11th clean sheet of the year.
The win also extended a season-best unbeaten streak to a seventh straight result (5-0-2). The team has not lost a game since June and is on the second longest unbeaten streak in all of MLS NEXT Pro teams.
The win also meant for the first time in club history, T2 earned a spot in the MLS NEXT Pro postseason. Portland is just the second team out of 30 in the league to secure its spot in the playoffs.
