Darlington Nagbe named to U.S. Men's National Team 23-man roster for knockout round of 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup

PORTLAND, Ore. â€“ Portland Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe has been named to the U.S. Men’s National Team’s 23-man roster for the knockout round of the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, it was announced today. 


Nagbe will join the United States for the team’s quarterfinal match on Wednesday, July 19. The United States awaits Sunday's Group C results, which will dictate who it faces in the quarterfinals on Wednesday in Philadelphia. Kickoff time and TV information is still to be determined. With the United States set to open the knockout round on Wednesday, Nagbe will miss the Timbers July 19 home match against Real Salt Lake. If the United States advance to the semifinals, Nagbe will also miss the Timbers July 23 away match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The Gold Cup, CONCACAF’s biennial championship, is set to run until Wednesday, July 26.


Playing on the international stage with the United States, Nagbe, 26, has earned 17 appearances since making his debut in 2015, including three caps in the 2016 Copa America Centenario, featuring against Colombia and Argentina. Most recently, Nagbe made two consecutive appearances for the USMNT in 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, playing 90 minutes in the team’s 2-0 win against Trinidad and Tobago on June 8, before coming on as a second-half substitute in the team’s 1-1 draw against Mexico on June 11.

Since making his debut for the United States during 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying on Nov. 13, 2015, Nagbe recorded his first international goal for the U.S. Men’s National Team in a 1-0 victory against Ecuador on May 25, 2016, scoring the game-winning goal in the 90th minute.

The Timbers all-time leader in games played (202) across all eras (since 1975), Nagbe has made 15 regular-season appearances (15 starts) for the Timbers in 2017, recording two goals and three assists.
