Darlington Nagbe named to U.S. Men's National Team roster for 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers

PORTLAND, Ore. â€“ Portland Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe has been named to the U.S. Men’s National Team roster for three international matches, including two 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, it was announced today. 

Prior to the team’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Trinidad and Tobago and Mexico, Nagbe, 26, will join the U.S. Men’s National Team for an international friendly against Venezuela at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah, on Saturday, June 3. Beginning at 7 p.m. (Pacific), the match against Venezuela will be broadcast live on FS1 and the Univision networks. 

Following the contest against Venezuela, the USMNT will travel to Commerce City, Colo., to take on Trinidad and Tobago at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on June 8. Starting at 4:50 p.m. (Pacific), the June 8 match against Trinidad and Tobago will be broadcast live on FS1, UniMas and UDN. Three days later, Nagbe and the United States will head to Mexico City, Mexico, to face the Mexican National Team at Estadio Azteca at 5:30 p.m. (Pacific) on June 11. The match against Mexico will be nationally televised on FS1, Univision and UDN.

Playing on the international stage with the United States, Nagbe has earned 14 appearances since making his debut in 2015, including three caps in the 2016 Copa America Centenario, featuring against Colombia and Argentina. Most recently, Nagbe made two consecutive appearances for the USMNT in 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, playing 90 minutes in the team’s 6-0 win against Honduras on March 24, before playing 69 minutes in the team’s 1-1 draw against Panama on March 28.

After making his debut for the United States during 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying on Nov. 13, 2015, Nagbe recorded his first international goal for the U.S. Men’s National Team in a 1-0 victory against Ecuador on May 25, 2016, scoring the game-winning goal in the 90th minute.

The Timbers all-time leader in games played (197) across all eras (since 1975), Nagbe has made 10 MLS regular-season starts for the Timbers in 2017, recording two goals and three assists.
