Portland kicks off 2027 season, presented by Toyota, hosting San Jose Earthquakes at Providence Park on Feb. 20
PORTLAND, Ore. – Major League Soccer today announced the 14-game, 2027 Sprint Season schedule for the Portland Timbers. Portland will kick off its 17th MLS campaign, presented by Toyota, on Saturday, February 20, playing host to the San Jose Earthquakes at Providence Park.Â
During the Sprint Season, each MLS club will face its 14 conference opponents once, playing seven matches at home and seven on the road. The fast-paced, high-stakes competition will launch the league’s transition into its new summer-to-spring calendar and align its schedule with the world’s top soccer leagues.

The 2027 Sprint Season will mark captain Diego Chara’s final MLS campaign after 17 years with the Timbers. The Colombian midfielder signed as the club’s first Designated Player in its inaugural 2011 MLS season. He has since helped guide the Timbers to an MLS Cup title (2015), three Western Conference Championship trophies (2015, 2018, 2021), and the 2020 MLS Is Back Tournament championship in his tenure with the club.
The Timbers will honor Chara with a seven-match collectible pin series throughout the Sprint Season. The first 10,000 fans at each home match will receive a unique Diego Chara pin. Fans can collect all seven to complete the full commemorative set.
Portland will encounter its first Cascadia matchup on the road, playing Seattle Sounders FC at Lumen Field on Saturday, April 3. They will then host Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Providence Park on Saturday, April 17.
The MLS regular season concludes with Decision Day 2027 on Saturday, May 8, with the Timbers hosting LAFC at Providence Park. All Western Conference matches will kick off at 5pm PT on Apple TV, with results determining which teams qualify for the Audi 2027 MLS Cup Playoffs.
Following Decision Day 2027 on May 8, the top eight teams in each of the two conferences will qualify for the Audi 2027 MLS Cup Playoffs. In each conference, the postseason will be played in a single-elimination bracket format to determine a conference champion. The Eastern and Western Conference champions will meet in 2027 MLS Cup on Memorial Day Weekend. The complete postseason schedule will be announced at a later date.
In addition to crowning an MLS Cup champion, the 2027 MLS Sprint Season will also have international competition implications, determining qualification for the 2028 Concacaf Champions Cup and 2028 Leagues Cup.
2027-28 Annual Memberships as well as Sprint Season Tickets are available now at timbers.com. Additional ticket packages and single-game tickets will be available in the coming weeks.
