Stand Together Snapshot: October 2012

The Portland Timbers wrapped up their season on a high note with Stand Together. Players, coaches and front office staff took Portland by storm during Stand Together Week, and honored players at the 2nd annual Stand Together Awards Banquet.

Danny Mwanga comes home
On October 3, Timbers forward Danny Mwanga returned to his alma mater, Jefferson High School. Mwanga helped lead soccer practices and signed autographs for the students afterward.

Stand Together Week
From October 8-14, the Portland Timbers participated in Stand Together Week. Stand Together Week is the first of its kind, recognized by the City of Portland as a week-long call to action to support volunteerism in the community.

Close to 500 community volunteers provided over 1,400 hours of service at 31 local nonprofit organizations, with a Timbers player and staff member at each event.

Adopt-a-Club
Adopt-a-Club wrapped up its 2012 season this month. This year, Adopt-a-Club went from supporting six local youth soccer clubs to 20 in Portland and southwest Washington. For more information and to apply on behalf of your club, click here.

Stand Together Awards Banquet
The Timbers ended their season at the Nines Hotel on Sunday, October 28 at their 2nd annual Stand Together Awards Banquet. Over 500 attendees helped support Stand Together by participating in live and silent auctions, and Timbers defender David Horst was named Community Player of the Year. Altogether, the event raised over $40,000 for Stand Together, which will benefit Stand Together programs and local nonprofit organizations in 2013.

The Timbers Soccer Celebration will be at Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square this June.! With supporting partners adidas and McDonald’s, the Soccer Celebration will feature interactive activities, local food carts, merchandise stands, fan giveaways as well as live viewings of select FIFA World Cup 26™ matches, all taking place in “Portland’s living room” from June 12-June 15. The events are free to attend for fans of all ages.
