A trio of Thorns FC players featured this past weekend for their respect Australian W-League sides in week three of the season’s action. Ashleigh Sykes and Canberra United played to a 3-2 win over Sydney FC at McKellar Park, Saturday night. The 90-minute performance from Sykes was her 100th career appearance in the Westfield W-League.
Goalkeeper Britt Eckerstrom returned to action for the Newcastle Jets Saturday, where she suffered her first loss of the season in a 5-2 defeat by Melbourne City FC. Eckerstrom faced nine shots, while making four saves.
On Friday, Celeste Boureille helped the Brisbane Roar to another road win to start the season as they downed Western Sydney 1-0 at Marconi Stadium. Boureille earned the start and played a full 90, taking a pair of shots in the match. Teammate Hayley Raso did not appear in the match.
