PORTLAND, Ore.
- Portland Timbers forwards Byron Alvarez and Dan Antoniuk today were named to the USL First Division’s Team of the Week for Week 17.
Both were instrumental in the Timbers’ successful road trip to Montreal and Minnesota last week--a two-match swing that earned Portland four points as the result of a victory and a draw.
Antoniuk’s goal in the 73rd minute on Aug. 10 gave the Timbers a 1-0 victory over the defending-champion Montreal Impact and three valuable points in the standings as Portland continues to fight for playoff eligibility. Antoniuk has six goals on the season, good for second on the team.
Alvarez tallied his team-leading seventh goal of the season as the Timbers settled for a 1-1 tie at Minnesota on Aug. 13.
The Timbers play host to the Seattle Sounders at PGE Park on Saturday, Aug. 20. It is OYSA Night, and the Timbers will be celebrating their 30th anniversary, with a host of special activities planned. The match begins at 7 p.m., and tickets are currently on sale at area Ticketmaster outlets and at the PGE Park box office. Tickets are also available at Ticketmaster.com and by phone at (503) 224-4400. Groups of 15 or greater are encouraged to contact the Timbers ticket office at (503) 553-5555 for discounted seats.
