Evander returns to the score sheet, but it's not enough as the Timbers draw 1-1 against New York City FC at Providence Park.

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers and New York City FC took a point each from Saturday night's match at Providence Park. Evander opened the scoring with a brilliant solo effort from outside the box late in the first half, but NYCFC's Keaton Parks cancelled it out with a headed goal off a set piece in the 51st minute. But the Timbers continued to push for a late game-winner as Evander hit the post in the final moments of second-half stoppage time off a direct free kick.

Debuts and Returns
Felipe Mora made his first appearance of the 2023 season, logging 14 minutes as a substitute. Mora earned his first minutes in a match since July 30, 2022, which came on the road against Minnesota United FC. It marked his first appearance in a home match since July 23, 2022. Noel Caliskan made his MLS debut for Portland, logging 45 minutes. It marked his third appearance across all competitions with the Timbers after he featured in both of the team’s 2023 U.S. Open Cup matches.

Goals and Assists
Evander notched his fifth goal of the campaign, tying him for the team lead with Franck Boli. Marvin Loría and Cristhian Paredes each recorded an assist on Evander’s goal. It was Loría’s first assist of the season, while Paredes tallied his second assist of the campaign. Loría became the 12th player to register an assist for the Timbers this season. With his assist, Paredes is the eighth player to record multiple assists for the club in 2023.

POR – Evander (Loría, Paredes), 38th minute: Paredes delivered a short pass from inside the box to Loría near the penalty spot. Loría felt the pressure from multiple defenders and laid the ball off for Evander, who fired a shot from the edge of the box under the crossbar.

NYCFC – Parks (Matías Pellegrini), 51st minute: Off a set piece, Pellegrini sent a free kick from just outside the box near the left corner to the edge of six-yard for Parks, who redirected the ball with a header into the back of the net.
