– On Sunday against the Cleveland City Stars, the Portland Timbers set a new modern-franchise record for regular-season attendance. The Timbers have had 133,438 fans attend the first 14 league home matches at PGE Park in 2009.
With one regular-season home match remaining on their schedule, the Timbers eclipsed the previous modern-franchise mark of 128,509 fans set in 2008. For the second straight season, the Timbers have surpassed the 100,000 mark in regular-season home attendance.
In addition, PGE Park saw 23,435 total visitors for the Timbers' three international exhibitions against Mexico’s Club America Reserves, Germany’s Bayern Munich II and English Premier League club Burnley FC this summer. The Timbers also had their first sellout crowd at PGE Park as a member of the USL First Division, when 16,382 fans attended the third-round matchup against Major League Soccer’s Seattle Sounders FC on July 1, in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament.
The first-place Timbers play host to the Cleveland City Stars at PGE Park in their regular-season finale Thursday at 7:15 p.m. Thursday is Fan Appreciation Night at PGE Park, featuring the team’s annual Jersey-Off-Our-Back auction presented by Toyota, post-game fireworks and a hard hat giveaway for the first 2,000 fans courtesy of Comcast.
Tickets start at $11 and are available through the PGE Park box office, area Ticketmaster locations, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at (800) 745-3000.
