PORTLAND, Ore. – Playing their final game of a two-match homestand, T2 play host to Cascadia-rival Seattle Sounders FC 2 at Providence Park on Tuesday, June 14; kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. (Pacific). As part of a doubleheader, the Portland Timbers will play host to the San Jose Earthquakes in the fourth round of the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific), with one ticket gaining admission to both matches.
The match on Tuesday marks the second of four meetings between the two clubs in 2016, as both teams are set to meet again Sunday, July 24, and Monday, Aug. 29, at Starfire Sports Complex. In the first meeting of the season on May 26, T2 defeated Seattle 1-0 behind a first-half goal from forward Villyan Bijev. With the win, Portland improved to 2-1-0 at Providence Park this season.
T2 (5-6-2, 17pts) enter this week’s contest looking to build off their 1-1 draw against San Antonio FC on June 11 at Merlo Field on the campus of the University of Portland. With the draw, T2 remained undefeated in their last three games, and improved to 4-3-1 at home this season. Outshooting San Antonio 5-4 in the first half, T2 opened the scoring in the 16th minute when midfielder Jack Barmby’s in-swinging corner kick was headed in for an own goal at the near post.
After defeating Whitecaps FC 2 3-2 on June 9, Sounders FC 2 (2-7-4, 10pts) venture into Tuesday’s match with only one win in its last eight games. Forward’s Andy Craven and Victor Mansaray lead the team in points with three goals on the season. Seven different players have scored for Seattle in 2016, with forward Nkongo O’Ojong, defender Tony Alfaro, midfielder Aaron Kover and forward Oalex Anderson each recording goals through the club’s first 13 games.
Single-game tickets for T2 matches are available at the Providence Park box office, online at www.timbers2.com, and on game day at the venue box office. Additionally, Tuesday’s match will be available via a live, high-definition web stream at www.timbers2.com.
Later this week, T2 will travel to face Cascadia-rival Whitecaps FC 2 at Thunderbird Stadium on Sunday, June 19; kickoff is set for 2 p.m. (Pacific).
