2025: Has started every match this season except June 8 vs STL and May 14 at RSL.... Made season debut in home opener against Vancouver on February 23.
2024: Made first MLS postseason appearance against VAN on Oct. 23... Made Timbers and MLS debut in Decision Day match against Seattle Sounders on Oct. 19.
CAREER: Began his career with Selwyn United in Christchurch... Moved to Wellington to join the Phoenix Academy in 2019... Scored one goal and contributed one assist in 37 appearances with the Nix’s reserve side across National League and New Zealand Premiership play (2019-2023). Made professional debut in FFA Cup Round of 32 match against Western United in December 2021. Registered one goal in 51 career appearances for Wellington’s senior team, logging 4,066 minutes played... Started all 27 matches in the 2023-24 A-League campaign... Started both legs of the semifinals in the club’s A-League Men playoff series... Scored lone A-League goal in game-winning fashion, a header in the 90+5 minute against Melbourne Victory FC on April 12, which gave the Nix its first top-two finish in club history...
INTERNATIONAL: Registered his second goal for New Zealand in a friendly against Norway on Oct. 14... Most recently played in two New Zealand friendly matches against Australia on Sept. 5 and 9, 2025, starting in the latter... Scored first goal for All-Whites against Tahiti in the OFC Nations Cup 2024 semifinal in June…Made four appearances (four starts) in the tournament, helping lead New Zealand to the title…Debuted for the senior team in a friendly against Greece in November 2023…In youth national team play, Surman started all three matches for the U-23 side in the 2024 Paris Olympics, logging 258 minutes.
