PORTLAND, Ore.
- Portland Timbers defender Scot Thompson was named to the USL First Division’s Team of the Week for Week 11, it was announced today.
Thompson, 24, was given the nod after a solid defensive performance in Saturday’s 1-1 tie vs. Vancouver at PGE Park. The second-year Timber played a large part in holding the Whitecaps to a scoreless second half, despite playing most of the match a man down.
The league honor is the first for Thompson this season.
It’s rivalry week for the Timbers, as they hit the road to take on the Seattle Sounders in a nationally-televised match on Fox Soccer Channel this Friday, followed by another road contest against the Vancouver Whitecaps in Kelowna, B.C., on Saturday, July 9.
The Timbers return to PGE Park on Tuesday, July 12, to face the Sounders in the third round of the 2005 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Tickets are now on sale at area Ticketmaster outlets at the PGE Park box office.
