Match Highlights:

7:12 p.m.: Kick-off, Portland in the home green, Miami FC in blue

4th minute: Portland earns the first corner of the match.  Justin Thompson collects a lose ball in the center of the six-yard box but is whistled offside.

8th minute: After a long build-up in the Timber defensive half, Miami's Sean Fraser collects the game's first shot, heading a cross well over from the edge of the six yard box.

11th minute: A nifty back heel pass frees Portland forward Chris Bagley breaking into the box.  His centering pass is blasted over by David Hague from 15 yards.

14th minute: Portland has found most of their success attacking down the right flank.  Scot Thompson's cross eludes the reach of charging Miami keeper Gabard Fenelon but Bagley can't settle the ball before firing over.

18th minute: Andrew Gregor's corner kick falls to Hague, whose initial header is stopped by a Miami defender.  The rebound comes right back to Hague, but his second header goes right into the arms of the Miami keeper.

19th minute:  A Miami handball gives Gregor a freekick near the right corner from 25 yards out.  Fenelon collects easily.

22nd minute: Miami's Fraser steals an errant Portland back pass, freeing him behind the Timber defense.  His shot past a charging Josh Wicks glances off the upper right corner of the goalpost.  Fraser's leaping follow attempt is cleared away by Portland's Leonard Griffin.

24th minute: Portland clears Miami's second corner in as many minutes.  Bryan Jordan draws a Miami foul just across midfield, but Gregor's long freekick is punched clear by Fenelon.

26th minute:  Miami FC's Zinho, now 40 years old but a former starter for Brazil's 1994 World Cup-winning side, holds two Portland defenders on his back before spinning and firing just wide of the left post from 17 yards.

34th minute:  Both teams had traded possession in the midfield for several minutes, with neither threatening seriously.  Cameron Knowles' attempt to head the ball back to Wicks is intercepted by Miami's Eric Vasquez, but his rushed volley sails well wide.

37th minute: Wicks stops a one-time shot from Fraser at the right post to end a quick Miami attack down the right flank.

39th minute:  Portland's Bryan Jordan breaks onto Andrew Gregor's centering pass but his redirected shot at the edge of the six-yard box is knocked wide by a diving Gabard Fenelon.

43rd minute: Portland's attack is more deliberate now than it was to open the game.  In the last ten minutes, the Timbers have favored the left flank almost exclusively.  Miami, by contrast, is attacking more quickly, especially down the right through Zinho and forward runs from Sergio Van Kanten.

45th minute: Fenelon puches away an Andrew Gregor corner kick.  Bryan Jordan tracks down the rebound and centers the ball to David Hague, but the linesman's flag is up and Portland is offsides.

Referee Oscar Ortiz whistles to end a scoreless first half.  Both teams had chances to score but only a few solid chances.
