PORTLAND, Ore.
– The Portland Timbers travel north to face the Kitsap Pumas of the Premier Development League (PDL) in the second round of the 2010 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday at Bremerton Memorial Stadium; kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
The winner of Tuesday’s cup fixture will move on to face the defending-U.S. Open Cup champion Seattle Sounders FC of Major League Soccer (MLS) in the third round of the 2010 tournament.
The second-round matchup will be broadcast live on Sportsradio 95.5 The Game; a pre-game show begins at 6 p.m. Tickets, priced at $5 for youth (4-12) and $10 for adults, are available for purchase online at

In the first round, the Timbers claimed a 3-0 win over the Sonoma County Sol of the U.S. Adult Soccer Association (USASA) at PGE Park on June 15. Midfielders
Alex Nimo
,
Takayuki Suzuki
and
James Marcelin
each scored their first goals of the season, and goalkeeper
Steve
Cronin
recorded the shutout to help the Timbers advance to the second round.
The Timbers and Pumas square off for a second straight year in the U.S. Open Cup. In 2009, Portland defeated Kitsap 3-0 at Bremerton Memorial Stadium in the first round, scoring all three goals in the second half. The Timbers would move on to the third round and face MLS’ Seattle at PGE Park.
Qualifying as one of eight teams from the PDL, the Pumas used extra time to earn a 4-2 victory over the Bay Area Ambassadors of the USASA in the first round. Kitsap competes in the same league and division as the Timbers’ development team, the Timbers U-23s, and owns a 7-1-0 (21pts) record in league play. The Pumas are one of the few professional teams in the PDL, and won the league’s Northwest Division title in 2009.
The Timbers are 6-6-0 all-time in U.S. Open Cup matches and have reached as far as the fourth round in 2004 and 2005, facing the San Jose Earthquakes of MLS in both tournaments. The 2010 tournament marks Portland’s seventh appearance in the U.S. Open Cup since 2001.
