PORTLAND, Ore. — With a tradition of giving back to the community, the Portland Timbers announced today that the Portland Timbers Community Fund (PTCF) is currently accepting applications from local nonprofit organizations for grants in 2012.
In 2011, the PTCF, in partnership with community fund founding partners Alaska Airlines, JELD-WEN Windows & Doors, Burgerville and PGE, awarded $100,000 to 23 youth-focused nonprofit organizations as part of the club’s community outreach platform, “Stand Together.”
To further bolster the PTCF, the Timbers have announced that club founding partner adidas will also join as a community partner in 2012, aiding in the Timbers’ future Stand Together outreach and initiatives.
The PTCF, an advised fund of the Oregon Community Foundation, supports charitable, nonprofit organizations that are registered as a 501(c)(3), with tax-exempt status from the IRS and are located within one of the four surrounding counties of the Portland metro area. Grant-seeking organizations must fall under one of the following areas of focus: youth education, youth sports, youth health and fitness and environmental awareness and activism with youth and families.
Letters of Inquiry (LOI) are now being accepted to be considered for a 2012 grant from the PTCF; click here for details. Grants from the PTCF are awarded three times a year. The deadline to submit LOIs for spring grants is Monday, Jan. 23, 2012.
Additionally, through a partnership with the City of Portland and Portland Parks and Recreation, the Timbers donate $50,000 a year to field projects and refurbishments in the greater-Portland area. In 2011, the club contributed funds towards field projects at Chapman School, James John Elementary School and Concordia University. The Timbers’ community mission is to improve the quality of life for children and families throughout the greater-Portland area through focused giving each year and to strengthen the bond between the Timbers and their fans through extensive community outreach.
