USL MATCH RECAP | Orange County Blues: 2, Portland Timbers 2: 0

PORTLAND, Ore. – Playing their first-ever match at Providence Park, T2 conceded two goals in the first half of a 2-0 loss against Orange County Blues FC on Sunday night in front of 4,944 fans. The loss marked Portland’s first home loss of the inaugural season.

T2 (3-3-1, 10pts) controlled the early stages of the match, but Orange County Blues FC (4-2-0, 12pts) found a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute as midfielder Didier Crettenand’s shot from distance beat goalkeeper Andrew Weber, striking the underside of the crossbar before finding the back of the net.

OC Blues jumped ahead 2-0 in the 34th minute as midfielder Seung Ju Kim played a through ball into the box for forward Denzel Slager who finished with a low, driven shot inside the far left post.

T2 saw several close chances in the second half, including a free kick from midfielder Will Johnson in the 60th minute that OC Blues goalkeeper Pepe Miranda was able to parry away. Looking to trim the deficit, Portland outshot OC Blues 12-5 in the second half, but were unable to find a breakthrough goal. Johnson finished with a team-high four shots, while T2 forced Miranda to make four saves in the second half.

Following Sunday’s match, T2 travel to take on Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Sand Creek Stadium in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Saturday, May 9; kickoff is set for 6 p.m. (Pacific). Saturday’s road match will be available live online via a high-definition web stream at www.timbers2.com.
