Quick Strikes | Heading into game against KC, Diego Valeri leads MLS in chances generated

Diego Valeri #4, Timbers vs. Houston, 6.26.16

After a three-game homestand, the Portland Timbers head to the Midwest to take on Sporting Kansas City Sunday at Children's Mercy Park (11:00am PT, FOX). Here are five numbers to know for #SKCvPOR in the latest Quick Strikes.

70Portland midfielder Diego Valeri has generated a league-leading 70 chances created this season, two more than NYRB's Sacha Kljestan.

40 With his goal against the LA Galaxy last week, Zarek Valentin became the 40th different Timbers player to score for the club in MLS play. The defender is also the first player with a first name that starts with the letter "Z" to ever score a goal in the history of the club (all eras).

2 Portland and Sporting KC will play their only two 2016 regular-season matches consecutively with the clubs meeting at Providence Park on Aug. 7 following this Sunday's game. This is the first time the Timbers have played an MLS opponent in consecutive matches since the club swept the San Jose Earthquakes in October 2014.

1,713 Since Caleb Porter became head coach for the 2013 season, Portland has produced the second-most shots in MLS with 1,713. The only team with more shots in that time span is Sunday's opponent, Sporting Kansas City, tallying just one more shot than the Timbers.

11 Sunday's match will be the first time the two clubs have met since the 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs Knockout Round. In that match, the teams combined to go 11 rounds in a penalty kick shootout, which was the longest shootout in MLS history.
