Saturday’s match marks the sixth league meeting between the Timbers and Montreal, which joined MLS as an expansion club in 2012. Heading into Saturday’s game, the Timbers are unbeaten in their last three matches played against the Eastern Conference side, including two wins at Stade Saputo and a draw at Providence Park. In the only meeting between the two teams in 2016, the Portland and Montreal battled to a 1-1 draw at Providence Park, with forward Jack McInerney scoring the lone goal for Portland, while midfielder Ignacio Piatti managed to score for Montreal moments before halftime.
