2017 NWSL Playoffs | Thorns FC playoff scenarios

Providence Park, Thorns FC vs. Flash, 9.11.16

With only three matches left in the 2017 NWSL regular season, Portland Thorns FC have not only already clinched a berth in the 2017 NWSL playoffs, but they are also in prime position to secure a top-two seed and a home semifinal playoff match.

The club’s quest for a home playoff match got a big boost this week, as the Orlando Pride and Seattle Reign FC played to a 1-1 draw on Thursday night while the Chicago Red Stars and FC Kansas City played to a scoreless stalemate on Saturday.

As a result, the Thorns can clinch a coveted home semifinal at Providence Park with a win Sunday against the Boston Breakers (3pm PT, go90 or NWSLsoccer.com).

Portland also remains in the chase for the 2017 NWSL Shield (awarded to the team with the best record at the end of the regular season), sitting in second place and entering the weekend just two points back of table leader North Carolina Courage. However, the Courage have a game in hand on the Thorns.
