PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers forward Jeremy Ebobisse has been named to the 20-player U.S. U-23 Men’s National Team roster for the 2020 Concacaf Olympic Qualifying Championship, to be held in Guadalajara, Mexico from March 20 – April 1, it was announced today.
Ebobisse, 23, has tallied 17 goals and nine assists in 74 appearances (45 starts) across all competitions for Portland since being selected with the No. 4 overall pick in the first round of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. In his third season with the Timbers in 2019, the Bethesda, Md., native finished tied for first on the team with 11 goals and was the only player on the roster to appear in all 34 league games.
Aiming to qualify for its first Olympic Games since 2008 with a victory in the tournament semifinals, the U-23 USMNT’s journey, led by head coach Jason Kreis, begins when Group A play opens on Friday, March 20 vs. Costa Rica (7 p.m. ET; FS2, TUDN). The U.S. will then face the Dominican Republic on Monday, March 23 (7 p.m. ET; FS1, TUDN) and wrap up the group stage vs. Mexico on Thursday, March 26 (11 p.m. ET; FS1, TUDN).
The 2020 Concacaf Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship features eight nations divided into two groups of four teams. The top two finishers in each group will advance to the pivotal semifinals that will send two winners to the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo as representatives of Concacaf. The two winners will also meet in the final on April 1.
