With Portland having been unbeaten in its previous four matches, they needed a win at home against Seattle Reign FC on Sept. 15, 2018 to clinch a home playoff match. The Reign, happy to play the spoiler role, jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute with a strike from Jessica Fishlock.
But Portland would not be denied. They exploded for three unanswered goals – two from Lindsey Horan to continue her MVP form and another from Tobin Heath – and the Thorns romped to a 3-1 victory in front of a sellout Providence Park.
