Thorns FC midfielder Lindsey Horan named NWSL Player of the Week

PORTLAND, Ore. Portland Thorns FC midfielder Lindsey Horan was named the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the NWSL Media Association for Week 24, it was announced today.

Horan, 24, scored a brace in Portland’s final regular-season game of the 2018 season, helping Thorns FC earn a 3-1 win over Seattle Reign FC and secure a home playoff game for a third straight season. It marked Horan’s second brace of the season, and the third of her Thorns FC career, as she finished the 2018 campaign ranked third in the NWSL with 13 goals.

The Golden, Colo., native leveled the match at 1-1, pouncing on a deflected cross played into the box by Midge Purce and delivering a powerful strike into upper, right corner of the goal in the 30th minute. She recorded the team’s third goal of the match in the 82nd minute, and her second of the game, flicking a header off a Tobin Heath corner kick inside the left post. (HIGHLIGHTS)
