Portland to open 2021 campaign April 18 on the road against Vancouver Whitecaps FC in Sandy, Utah

PORTLAND, Ore. – Major League Soccer today unveiled the full 34-game, 2021 regular-season schedule for the Portland Timbers. Portland will open its 11th season in MLS on the road against Cascadia-rival Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah on Sunday, April 18; kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (Pacific).

In 2021, the Timbers will have at least 10 matches featured on national television. Five of the Timbers’ road games will feature a national broadcast, including Houston Dynamo FC (Sept. 3), the LA Galaxy (July 30), Los Angeles FC (Sept. 29) and the Philadelphia Union (May 30). Five Portland home games will be broadcast nationally, which includes matches against Inter Miami CF (Oct. 3), the Galaxy (May 22) and LAFC (Sept. 19).

All three matches between Portland and Cascadia-rival Seattle Sounders FC will feature national television broadcasts with the two teams squaring off at Providence Park on May 9 (ABC) and Aug. 15 (ESPN), while meeting at Lumen Field on Aug. 29 (ESPN).

Of the 24 local broadcast games, 16 will air on FOX 12 PLUS (KPDX) and eight will be carried on ROOT SPORTS. All games will also be broadcast on radio at KXTG 750 The Game and in Spanish on KGDD 93.5 FM/1150 AM.

The Timbers will twice face Eastern Conference opponents in 2021, with Portland traveling to face Philadelphia on May 30 and then playing host to Inter Miami for the first time in team history on Oct. 3. Additionally, Portland will square off against expansion side Austin FC three times, first traveling to Q2 Stadium on July 3 and Aug. 21 and then playing at Providence Park on Decision Day on Nov. 7.

Due to travel restrictions between the U.S. and Canada, Whitecaps FC will begin the MLS regular season in the U.S. with the club hosting matches at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah until a return to their home market is permitted.

On March 17, the Oregon Health Authority announced that outdoor sporting events will be allowed to have 25 percent capacity with the Timbers notably allowing fans on Tuesday, April 13 when the club plays host to C.D. Marathón at Providence Park in a Round of 16 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League match.

Prior to the start of the 2021 MLS regular season, the Timbers begin their 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League campaign by first traveling to face C.D. Marathón at Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in the first leg of the Round of 16 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras on Tuesday, April 6 at 3 p.m. (Pacific), before playing host to Marathón at Providence Park on Tuesday, April 13 at 5 p.m. (Pacific) in the second leg.
