In addition, Meridian announces the availability of its location-based apps platform for Android device users. iOS device users have enjoyed access to Meridian since launch.

Once downloaded from Apple’s App Store or Android Market, Meridian will allow Timbers fans to use their smart phones to:

  • Navigate JELD-WEN Field with turn-by-turn directions between entrances, their seat section, concessions, restrooms and more.
  • Buy tickets, merchandise and other e-commerce options.
  • Access fun tools specifically tailored to supporter feedback such as chant lyrics and Twitter feeds. For iPhone 4 users, a soundboard will replicate axe and chainsaw sounds.
  • Receive concessions and public transportation information and directions
  • View maps of the stadium and surrounding areas.
  • Look up information on matches and players.

While many places once settled for apps that merely offered their visitors a mobile friendly version of their web sites, the Timbers know that their tech-savvy supporters demand more. Unlike more static mobile apps, Meridian engages users and provides them information that’s relevant to wherever they are in a location. Because Meridian is a platform, the Timbers staff can make changes to the app in seconds with Meridian’s content management system, Meridian Editor.

“Timbers supporters are big users of their smart phones so we needed a partner like Meridian to build the unique functionality for this app,” said Cory Dolich, Timbers vice president of business operations and marketing. “What’s more, Meridian’s content management system will make updating the app much easier and economical than alternative approaches.”

“Smart companies know that engaging customers wherever they are is the future and the Portland Timbers are one organization at the forefront,” said Kiyo Kubo, CEO of Meridian. “We all can’t wait to see the passionate Timbers supporters put the app to the test.”

The Meridian location-based services platform was built by a team responsible for mobile apps for many popular locales including: the Smithsonian Institute, the American Museum of Natural History, Balboa Park, Powell’s Books and the Portland Art Museum.
