RCTID Axe Portraits, 1.23.20

In 2011, as part our billboard campaign to announce the Timbers debut in Major League Soccer, we took professional portraits of Timbers supporters holding axes. We're excited to announce that this year, in celebration of our 10th year in MLS, we’re holding this special event again, as we do every five years. The free photo shoots, open to everyone, will take place over three days – January 25, 26, and February 1 – at Providence Park.

When
10 am – 6 pm: Saturday, Jan. 25, and
Saturday, Feb. 1
-- Edit: First weekend is finished. Come by on Feb. 1 from 10 am - 6pm!
10 am – 5 pm: Sunday, January 26

  • Please enter through Gate D on the northeast side of Providence Park at the corner of Morrison and 18th. Attendees will be photographed on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • The event will feature an open pitch, where supporters will be able to play on the field and take their own photos.

  • FAQ on the stadium and the photoshoot

  • And with these photos come stories. Stories about your first photo axe photo, people you met waiting in line, families that have grown over time, new friends that you have made, what this club means to you and more.

And we want to hear about them.

RCTID.com will not only serve as the home for all of the axe portraits as they come through but also as a place where you can also share your own personal story to the site. Here are a few recent ones as people have looked back on previous images.

I had just retired after 20 years in the US Coast Guard and my wife wanted to do something special to mark the occasion. She always liked my jersey and I had met several Timber Players who liked the concept of the “0-Pity”kit. So we both went down to Providence Park, stood in line for several hours and had the photos taken. To my surprise, several of my friends said that they saw me on the news displayed on the side of Providence Park a week later..! I will always cherish those memories entering the stadium under that banner, and screaming my lungs out cheering on the Portland Timbers...

Alaska Airlines became official shirt sponsor the same year they finally opened a Pilot Base at PDX. We were "all in" waiting for MLS soccer to come to PDX was now a dream realized. My husband who is a pilot for Alaska Airlines flew the ALASKA TIMBERS JET in the Hillsboro airshow....we realize we were really a part of the community!

My son and I have a special bond with sports - we both are athletes and I have found the greatest love watching him play soccer. We had the best time standing in line for 4 hours and made lasting friendships to take this photo. We have traveled watched soccer in two continents and our most memorable trip was 17 days, 5 cities and 5 games in Brazil and the 2012 World Cup. It was an unforgettable experience and met soccer fans from all over the world - including one Timbers fan in Rio! We continue this love and tradition today and I'm very proud to say that after 6 years of being on the wait list, in 2020 we are officially Portland Timbers Army season ticket owners. We are looking forward to continuing supporting the Timbers and our beautiful Rose City. There is nothing like spending quality time with you child and sports is one of our most favorite parts of life that we share together. I love you Emilio & thank you for all of the wonderful memories and spending time with me.
